We want to start a mental health challenge with YOU! It won’t take too much of your time – we know how busy everyone is. We also know that the one thing we all need – a bit of time for ourselves, is usually the first thing we drop when we get busy. For this week, it’s only a week, we ask you to play along. You can do this!
Your challenge: *For the next 3 days, the first thing you do needs to be to drink a glass of water (a big glass). Try and do this with your partner and children. Try it only for 3 days and then decide if you want to continue with it. You are in control – we just ask for 3 days of you trying this out with us.
*If you started the water challenge on Monday, we want you to increase the challenge to a 5min meditation from Thursday onwards. We will be sharing more ideas on specific apps in a later post, but for adults, we suggest Balance, Headspace or Calm. For children, we recommend Moshi (for sleep routine), Breathe, Think & Do with Sesame and Headspace too!
*If you are still with us on this challenge, we want to up our game from Sunday onwards. Let’s try and replace one unhealthy snack with a healthy one today and for the next 3 days. If you gravitate towards chocolate, rather grab an apple or a fruit bar. You can do it!
*The easiest, yet possibly the hardest challenge. Let’s start an affirmation diary – write down one thing you are proud of yourself for each day – for the next 3 days. We often focus on what we still need to do or what we can do better. Not just for ourselves, but for our children too. Let’s “flip the switch” and focus on what we like about ourselves or what we are proud of. The only rule here is that before you write down one thing about yourself for the day, you should read the previous day(s) affirmations. A great app for children to participate here is “Three Good Things – a Happiness Journal”.
So let’s do a quick recap: Let’s say you start this challenge on Monday: You’re going to start each day with a glass of water on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Then you decide whether you want to continue.
Also – start your affirmation diary. Just one thing that you like or accomplished during that day. Don’t try and think too big – it can be something like you managed to take a few deep breaths and respond to your child calmly when he asked the same question for the third time. That’s huge!
Starting from Thursday – include just 5 minutes of meditation in your day. First thing in the morning or just before you go to bed might be a good time. Try and keep going with this every day. Then on Sunday – replace one unhealthy snack with a healthy one. And…are you still doing your affirmation diary?!
