There are things about my autistic child that I love and you can it too!
We asked a few of our families some of their favorite things about their autistic child and these are merely a few of the amazing answers we received:
I LOVE how he states exactly what he thinks of a situation, person, or upcoming event. He will look me in my eyes and state confidently that my idea of going to the zoo sucks and his reasons make sense. He will tell me, in a very serious manner, that there are too many people, they might spread diseases (especially after the outbreak of Covid), and that it will be too hot to stand in line to watch animals that honestly donât even want to be there.
My daughter will laugh uncontrollably at things that for the life of me I canât figure out why itâs funny. She will look at a candle that I blow out and laugh at for about 5 minutes to the point where everyone in the room is filled with laughter and feels completely stress-free. She has this superpower.
My favorite saying my child has at the most (or least, sometimes) appropriate times is âscrew it, letâs do itâ. This has proven to be the most effective way for him to get to do an activity of his choosing. Come to think about it, he might be a mastermind in manipulating everyone around him in a very innocent manner!
Our child doesnât communicate verbally, but he will often give us a âthumbs upâ when we do something âwellâ in his eyes. He did this once when my husband told me that I was right about an argument we had the night before. My son looked at me, winked, and gave me a âthumbs upâ. He gets everything!
